Lapog hosted the Christ the King celebration of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008. Lapog last hosted the feast about three decades ago, on the same date, under the same parish priest, Rev. Fr. Albert Manalo (talk about history repeating itself). It being an archdiocesan affair, droves of parishioners from the different parishes in Ilocos Sur came to the event, the highlight of which was a concelebration of the Holy Mass led by Archbishop Ernesto Salgado. The 2 pm mass was followed by a procession along the poblacion streets, which were festively decorated with pabitin prepared by the four barangays.
With more parishes being formed, the interval of each parish’s chance to host this historic celebration will get longer. We are lucky to have witnessed the event. With all the preparations done by both the local church and the local government of Lapog, the feast went well, except for a very poor quality sound system, which, some say, is one of the most, if not the most, important factor that spells success (or failure) of this kind of event. That was the spoiler in Lapog’s celebration.

Manang Lani, do we have any other snapshots of this memorable event? How did they go about this time?
1 | Jane Ventura January 21st, 2009 at 4:44 amSorry, Jane, I only got these pics. There were so many people it was difficult to find a good place to take good shots of the event. I hope, though, that there are other Lapoguenios out there who can share whatever photos they took, especially of the procession. Feel free to send them and I’ll include them in this post.
