Its grand town hall may have stopped wowing local motorists (tourists still stop-over to take pictures in front of it), but the neighboring town of Magsingal is awaiting the completion of its new public market, which townsfolk hope to be finished by December. Motorists and passers-by always cast curious glances at the on-going construction activities, not just for the main building but the landscaping of its surroundings, no doubt visualizing in their minds how the site would look.

Mayor Arlyn Favis has decided to give an attractive incentive to future tenants (merchants) in the new public market; she has waived the payment for the right to conduct business there. Other LGUs charge about P35,000 for the right to keep a store in their public market, a one-time cash outlay for tenants, after which they pay monthly rentals. Mayora Arlyn, however, reasoned that merchants are better off if the LGU waived the payment for the rights in order for them (the merchants) to have something to start with as capital for their business. Merchants will only have to pay the monthly rentals (for permanent stalls) or daily market fees (for day tables).
The Magsingal public market is known for its brisk volume of market transactions, especially during market days (Wednesday and Saturday). With the incentive of the LGU, the new public market will certainly remain vibrant with buyers and sellers. Way to go Magsingal!

I like the sound of it already! Alright Magsingal! Just the photo I am seeing now makes me happy and I can see this will be a fabulous success in town! Salute!

4 | allan October 27th, 2007 at 9:39 amThanks for keeping us up-to-date with local news Lani. I know they are building one in Magsingal but didn’t realise how pretty it is, though obviously unfinished still. I hope that the successes of other LGUs be an inspiration for others and do the right thing of making infrastructure such as this accessible to local traders and farmers.
